This drug has a rapid onset and short duration of action and is used as a hypnotic in the short-term treatment of insomnia.

Tell your doctor if you have any of the following:

  1. A history of allergy to zolpidem and other allergens, especially medicines
  2. History of respiratory problems, renal or hepatic failure
  3. If you take any medication, especially medications that weaken the central nervous system or alcohol.

Consumption during pregnancy and lactation

(Group C) Use of this drug is only permitted in pregnancy where the benefits of its use outweigh the potential risks.
Studies have shown that this drug is secreted into breast milk, so it is only permissible in breastfeeding when the benefits of taking it outweigh the potential risks.

Warnings

  1. Since taking this drug causes drowsiness, avoid doing things like driving that require full vigilance.
  2. If you are taking this medicine, do not take any medicines, including medicines for central nervous system disorders or alcohol.
  3. Consult your physician if you experience any behavioral changes such as aggression, confusion, restlessness, hallucinations, aggravated depression, suicidal thoughts, prior to discontinuing the drug (after more than one to two weeks of zolpidem). do
  4. Since this medication is in conflict with some medications, please tell your doctor if you are taking the following medications:
    – Chlorpromazine (Concomitant use of Zolpidem increases chlorpromazine half-life)
    – Imipramine (Concomitant use of Zolpidem increases the effect of drowsiness, memory loss and decreased serum concentration of imipramine)
    – Other CNS or alcohol-attenuating drugs (exacerbated by the need to reduce the dose, or both)
    – as well as bupropion, despyramine, ketoconazel, rifampin, sertraline and venlafaxine.
  5. Except in certain cases that the physician considers necessary, this drug is contraindicated in the following cases:
    A history of drug and alcohol dependence, liver disorders, depression, psychosis, severe and chronic respiratory illnesses, especially obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep apnea syndrome, renal failure, and a history of allergy to zolpidem.

Amount and method of administration

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. The amount of each drug is prescribed by your doctor, but the usual dose is as follows:
Adult dose: The optimal dose varies depending on the response of each patient, but the usual dose of zolpidem for short-term treatment of nocturnal insomnia is 2 mg at bedtime and a maximum dose of 2 mg at 2 hours.
The initial dose in poor and elderly patients as well as in patients with renal failure or hepatic impairment is 2 mg at bedtime.
It is recommended to take this medicine at the lowest dose and for the shortest time. Periodic monitoring of the patient is necessary if continued.

Attention:

  • Be aware of patients who have potential suicidal ideations or a history of excessive alcohol drinking that do not have a large amount of medication available.
